PS3 Battlefield 3 Players Finally Get Battlefield 1943

At E3 2011, EA promised that PlayStation 3 owners who brought Battlefield 3 would find a free copy of Battlefield 1943 snuggled beside it on the Blu-Ray. Well they didn't keep their word and that lead to angry customers filing a class-action lawsuit against EA for breaking their word.

Today EA fulfilled their promise, giving all PS3 Battlefield 3 players a free code to download the PSN title. European players can get theirs on November 26th, North Americans on December 10th, and players in Asia will have to wait until December 17th.


You can see how to redeem your code on EA's website, which gives the following instructions:
"To download your copy of Battlefield 1943 for the PlayStation 3 please follow the easy steps below.

1. Activate your Battlefield 3 Online Pass for the PlayStation 3 using the voucher included in the game (see step #5 for additional instructions).

2. Visit 1943redemption.battlefield.com on or after the dates outlined above for your region and log in with your Origin ID and password. Click here if you need help with retrieving your account information.

3. Select your territory. Note vouchers do not work across regions.

4. You will then receive a PlayStation 3 voucher for Battlefield 1943.

5. Input your voucher into the PlayStation Network store. From the XMB (cross media-bar) of the PlayStation 3 connected to a network, choose [account management] under the [PlayStation Network]. From the menu select redeem codes. Enter voucher and select continue. Download Battlefield 1943."  

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Coming December 6th

The new Xbox 360 Dashboard that was scheduled for Fall 2011 will finally become public this December 6th, according to Major Nelson. This update will be for all Xbox 360 users, and will bring new features such as Cloud Storage for game saves and LIVE profiles, beacons and Facebook sharing, enhanced family settings, integrated voice and gesture controls, and Bing voice search. 

Along with these will be other ongoing updates throughout the rest of the year ... adding new apps and content for television, music, movies, internet videos, and sports. More details will be posted when the dashboard is public ... stay tuned.

Modern Warfare 3 Breaks Five Day Sales Record

Activision revealed today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has broken the five day sales record for any movie, book or video game in history. Apparently Modern Warfare 3 hauled in over $775 million worldwide. This shatters the previous record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops, which stood boldly at $650 million. In case you were trying to remember how much Modern Warfare 2 made, it was $550 million. The game also broke Xbox Live records. On November 8th MW3 reported 3.3 million users, up from the 2.6 million by Black Ops. It seems Call of Duty keeps topping itself.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations Online Pass Details

With all these new titles using the "Online Pass" system, its no surprise that Assassin's Creed: Revelations will be requiring a pass code to access its multiplayer content and exclusive characters. All new copies of the game will come with a Uplay Passport code which will grant you access to multiplayer and "The Sentinel" character.

After redeeming your code you will unlock multiplayer Wanted Mode, Artifact Assault Mode, Manhunt, Deathmatch, Corruption, Steal The Artifact, Assassinate, Chest Capture and Training Ground.

If you buy the game used, you will have to buy a Uplay Passport code or request a free trail.

Uncharted 3 Sells 3.8 Million Copies

Uncharted 3 was released November 1st and its been selling well. Sony reported today that Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception sold 3.8 million copies worldwide on its first day in stores. In case you forgot, Uncharted 3 came out just one week ago. Thats pretty amazing that an exclusive sold that much on its first day.

Valve's Steam Hacked ... Credit Card Data May Be at Risk

Reports came in today that Valve's digital video game downloading service, Steam, has been hacked. Valve's Gabe Newell revealed that the forums and database at Steam shows evidence of unauthorized access earlier in the week and that users' credit card data may be at risk. It is not clear whether or not actual customer information were indeed stolen, but such data faces high possibilities of being tampered with. Below is Newell's statement:
Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

God of War IV Rumored for Fall 2012

Breaking news ... God of War IV might have an official release date. According to IGN, a New Zealand retailer MightyApe has listed the game with a release date of September 28, 2012. It was previously rumored that the game is under development but, Sony hasn't yet confirmed. Stay tuned for more.

Call of Duty Elite Subscriptions Extended by 30 Days

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had a rather successful launch earlier this week but not without some hiccups in its Call of Duty Elite stats tracking service. Access to the service has been down for several days since being fully launched, and Activision is taking actions to reward subscribers by extending memberships by 30 days. According to a post by IGN, Activision said that"
"to ensure that every premium member receives their full money's worth, we are immediately and automatically extending your membership to Call of Duty Elite by 30 days at no additional cost. If you're still considering becoming a premium member, we're going to extend Founder eligibility until the end of the month, and you will also receive the additional 30 days of access." 
In addition, Activision claims that despite the service outage, "your gameplay data for your entire careers in both Black Ops and MW3 is safely stored, and it will all be available to you once these issues are resolved. Teams have been working non-stop to identify issues and resolve them as quickly as possible."

Call of Duty Elite is Activision's stat tracking service which allows COD gamers to manage and track in game stats based on how you play. The basic service is free, but the more advance features comes with a fee. 

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Collector's Edition Unveiled

Square Enix has revealed the collectors edition of Final Fantasy XIII-2. This package will include the game, a four-disc soundtrack and an art book containing concept artwork from Final Fantasy XIII-2, which features illustrations, environments and more. The game will be released on December 15, 2011 in Japan. In the U.S. the game will be released on January 31, 2012 for a price of $59.99. It will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Modern Warfare 3 Pre-orders Close to 9 Million

GameSpot reported today that pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tripled those of Battlefield 3, placing the action sequel roughly around 9 million pre-orders. Estimates put Modern Warfare 3's sales approximately 70 percent ahead of those for Modern Warfare 2 and 55 percent ahead of Call of Duty Black Ops'. Analyst expect Modern Warfare 3 to sell 20 million copies by the end of 2011 ... DAMN.

Mass Effect 3 Beta Leaks to Xbox Live

The Mass Effect 3 Beta, meant to be closed, for private access only, was openly leaked on Xbox Live several hours ago. The 1.8GB download is already pulled from the network and was available only to members who signed up as testers in the Xbox Dashboard Preview Program. Some users were able to download full beta and were given access to some singleplayer, multiplayer, and Galaxy at War features. BioWare's John Houston replied to the leak via the BioWare forums, stating that ...
"As most of you know by now, this evening an accidental leak occurred of some early Mass Effect 3 beta code. Microsoft has advised us that through human error at their end, content which was meant for internal beta testing was flagged incorrectly and released to individuals who had signed up for the beta of the Xbox Live dashboard update. It has since been taken down and deactivated.  
We'd like to stress that the leaked code is in a rough, unfinished state and was not meant for public release. The content is not final, and is not reflective of the quality of the finished, polished game due for release on March 6, 2012 (March 9 in Europe).  
One feature that was present in this early build is a set of game play modes that are in development. In the beta code they are referred to as "action mode", "story mode" and "RPG mode". We want to stress that these features are still in the early stages of development and will receive considerable iteration and refinement. These modes are designed to give players an even finer degree of control over their game experience than ever before. Whether it be someone who finds the combat difficult but wants to experience the amazing story, someone who wants to focus on the action and combat game play, or fans who want the rich, story-driven RPG Mass Effect experience they've come to love – Mass Effect 3 will support all of these options. We'll have more info in the days ahead!"
